NFL Picks – Week 16

December 19, 2013

Dolphins at Bills (Sunday 1pm)
Suddenly, the Dolphins have playoff life after last week’s upset over the Patriots.  Win out over the Bills and the Jets and they’re into the 2nd season. It doesn’t hurt this week that Thad Lewis is in for EJ Manuel even though Lewis beat the Dolphins in Miami earlier this season.
Winner: Dolphins

Saints at Panthers (Sunday 1pm)
The NFC South Title is on the line here in a rematch of two weeks ago. Don’t count on the Panthers being as bad this Sunday as they did then. Saints could be dropping to a possible 5th or 6th seed witih a loss here.
Winner: Panthers

Vikings at Bengals (Sunday 1pm)
No cupcake for the Bengals, who suddenly find themselves with the Ravens breathing down their neck in the AFC North.
Winner: Bengals

Broncos at Texans (Sunday 1pm)
Time for Peyton and crew to wrap up that #1 seed.
Winner: Broncos

Titans at Jaguars (Sunday 1pm)
Two teams working on keeping momentum for 2014.
Winner: Jaguars

Colts at Chiefs (Sunday 1pm)
Playoff preview in KC as these two teams are likely to meet in the 1st round.
Winner: Chiefs

Browns at Jets (Sunday 1pm)
Can the Jets finish .500 to save Rex Ryan’s job?
Winner: Jets

Bucs at Rams (Sunday 1pm)
Too bad for St.Louis that last week’s win over the Saints is the exception rather than the rule in 2013.
Winner: Rams

Cowboys at Redskins (Sunday 1pm)
An absolute and utter mess.  That applies to either team. It’s just a matter of who’s going to give it up last.
Winner: Cowboys

Giants at Lions (Sunday 4pm)
The Giants are looking towards 2014 on their own.  As for the Lions, Justin Tucker’s 61-yard FG may have them looking towards 2014 as well.
Winner: Lions

Cardinals at Seahawks (Sunday 4pm)
This could get ugly in Seattle.  The Cards are good, but the matchup is scary bad for them this week.
Winner: Seahawks

Patriots at Ravens (Sunday 4:25pm)
Two teams seemingly going in opposite directions.  Grab your lunchpail, it’s always a battle between these two teams.  Expect nothing less this time.
Winner: Ravens

Steelers at Packers (Sunday 4:25pm)
To Aaron Rodgers or not to Aaron Rodgers.  That is the Packers question as they climb right back into the NFC Playoff Race, courtesy of the Dallas Cowboys.  UPDATE (Fri 2pm): Aaron Rodgers officially out for week 16.
Winner: Packers

Raiders at Chargers (Sunday 4:25pm)
Hail Mary time for the Chargers.  Win out and have the Ravens and Dolphins lose out.  Not likely.
Winner: Chargers

Bears at Eagles (Sunday 8:30pm)
O-F-F-E-N-S-I-V-E S-H-O-O-T-O-U-T!!!
Winner: Eagles

Falcons at 49ers (Monday 8:40pm)
The 49ers are the 2nd best time in the NFL. Unfortunately for them, they will be a 5th seed in the NFC Playoffs.
Winner: 49ers

Last week: 9-7
Season: 144-78-1

NFL Picks – Week 15

December 12, 2013

Chargers at Broncos (Thursday 8:25pm)
The Chargers have a knack for playing well in Denver (having won 3 of the last 4). No Wes Welker for the Broncos, but that shouldn’t stop them.
Winner: Broncos

Patriots at Dolphins (Sunday 1pm)
Life without Gronk (again) begins anew for New England. Will the Dolphins be the first beneficiaries?
Winner: Patriots

Redskins at Falcons (Sunday 1pm)
Washington is a mess even though the fallout may be that the Skins field a better QB this week with Kirk Cousins in for RGIII.
Winner: Falcons

Bears at Browns (Sunday 1pm)
Cutler or McCown. That’s the question for the Bears. The question for Cleveland is how do the Browns respond to losing a 13 point lead in 63 seconds in losing at New England last Sunday.
Winner: Browns

Texans at Colts (Sunday 1pm)
The Colts are reeling.  The Texans are reeling more.
Winner: Colts

Bills at Jaguars (Sunday 1pm)
The hottest team in the AFC South plays in Jacksonville. So, for the 2nd straight week, Buffalo will lose to a team that started the season 0-8.
Winner: Jaguars

Eagles at Vikings (Sunday 1pm)
Both Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart are hurt. Fantasy football players will love Nick Foles this week (again!).
Winner: Eagles

Seahawks at Giants (Sunday 1pm)
Consider this the MetLife Stadium dress rehearsal for Seattle. Opening night should come February 2nd.
Winner: Seahawks

49ers at Bucs (Sunday 1pm)
This one will be closer than you think and could be a trap game for the Niners, coming off an emotional win over the Seahawks.
Winner: 49ers

Jets at Panthers (Sunday 4pm)
Not exactly what the Doctor ordered for the Jets: a trip to Carolina to face an angry Panthers team coming off an awful night in New Orleans last Sunday.
Winner: Panthers

Chiefs at Raiders (sunday 4pm)
If only the Chiefs could face RGIII every Sunday.
Winner: Chiefs

Packers at Cowboys (Sunday 4:25pm)
Can the Cowboys “D” look any worse than they did last Monday night in Chicago? Not facing Aaron Rodgers would help.
Winner: Cowboys

Saints at Rams (Sunday 4:25pm)
Rolling, rolling, rolling. Saints in a Dome keep rolling.
Winner: Saints

Cardinals at Titans (Sunday 4:25pm)
Must win spot for Arizona here to keep pace in the NFC Playoff Chase.
Winner: Cardinals

Bengals at Steelers (Sunday 8:30pm)
If the Bengals are to be real players in the AFC, games like this, on the road against an inferior team, are must wins.  Do you trust the Bengals?
Winner: Steelers

Ravens at Lions (Monday 8:40pm)
We keep saying it, the Lions just can’t stand prosperity.  Home loss here against a team that knows how to win in December would be devastating to the playoff cause.
Winner: Ravens

Last week: 14-2
Season: 135-71-1

NFL Picks – Week 13

November 27, 2013

Packers at Lions (Thursday 12:30pm)
This one would be a whole lot different with Aaron Rodgers playing for Green Bay.
Winner: Lions

Raiders at Cowboys (Thursday 4:30pm)
Typical trap game for Dallas after an emotional road win at the Giants last Sunday that puts them back in a first place tie with the Eagles in the NFC East.
Winner: Cowboys

Steelers at Ravens (Thursday 8:30pm)
Hard to believe that the winner here is in pretty good shape in the AFC Wild Card race.  Hard-nose, hard-fought, physical football is a perfect way to end Turkey Day!
Winner: Steelers

Patriots at Texans (Sunday 1pm)
Houston makes it a perfect 10 in a row.  Losses that is.
Winner: Patriots

Dolphins at Jets (Sunday 1pm)
If anyone tells you they absolute
ly know what’s going to happen in this game, they’re lying.  Two teams riding the roller coaster all season long.
Winner: Dolphins

Bucs at Panthers (Sunday 1pm)
Don’t be surprised if the Bucs have a chance to win this one late in the fourth quarter.
Winner: Panthers

Jaguars at Browns (Sunday 1pm)
The Jaguars are so bad they’re trying to mess up getting the #1 pick by winning lately.
Winner: Browns

Titans at Colts (Sunday 1pm)
Mt. Irsay, otherwise known as the Colts owner, erupted on Twitter this week. If Indy’s offense doesn’t erupt, the AFC South top spot will be up for grabs.
Winner: Colts

Bears at Vikings (Sunday 1pm)
The Bears can’t stop the run.  The Vikings have Adrian Peterson. That could be a bad combo for Chicago.
Winner: Bears

Cardinals at Eagles (Sunday 1pm)
How is this not the Sunday night game of the week? Best game of the week candidate here.
Winner: Eagles

Falcons at Bills (Sunday 4pm)
Unfortunately, this is the NFL’s gift to Toronto this year.
Winner: Bills

Rams at 49ers (Sunday 4pm)
The 49ers are getting healthier and getting better. Both things are bad news for the rest of the NFC.
Winner: 49ers

Broncos at Chiefs (Sunday 4:25pm)
The winner has the inside track on the top seed in the AFC.  The loser could be the 5th seed.  That’s how much the Broncos needed to hang on to their 24-0 lead in Foxboro last Sunday night.
Winner: Chiefs

Bengals at Chargers (Sunday 4:25pm)
Phillip Rivers is getting hot and the Chargers have four home games in the next five.  Keep your eyes on the Bolts.
Winner: Chargers

Giants at Redskins (Sunday 8:30pm)
Why is America subjected to this in the primetime game of the week.  Bad job not flexing this one out NFL!
Winner: Giants

Saints at Seahawks (Monday 8:40pm)
If the Saints can’t beat Seattle here, their road to the Super Bowl gets dramatically tougher.
Winner: Seahawks.

Last week: 6-7-1
Season: 111-63-1

NFL Picks – Week 12

November 21, 2013

Saints at Falcons (Thursday 8:25pm)
At one time, this would’ve been a must see game. Not this week.
Winner: Saints

Jets at Ravens (Sunday 1pm)
It’s Rex Ryan and Ed Reed’s homecoming.  The guests should be very helpful to the home team.
Winner: Ravens

Panthers at Dolphins (Sunday 1pm)
Can you say “trap game” for the Panthers, coming off an emotional win Monday night over the Patriots?
Winner: Panthers

Bucs at Lions (Sunday 1pm)
This will be better than you think.
Winner: Lions

Steelers at Browns (Sunday 1pm)
The Browns shouldn’t be giving as many gifts as the Lions did last week to Pittsburgh.
Winner: Browns

Vikings at Packers (Sunday 1pm)
Hard to believe that this is a must win already for the Packers.
Winner: Packers

Jaguars at Texans (Sunday 1pm)
The Battle for the #1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft is on in Houston.
Winner (or is that loser): Texans

Chargers at Chiefs (Sunday 1pm)
Two words for Jamaal Charles: “field day.”
Winner: Chiefs

Bears at Rams (Sunday 1pm)
To say that Chicago is having 2nd thoughts about a long-term deal for the injured Jay Cutler is an understatement.
Winner: Bears

Colts at Cardinals (Sunday 4pm)
Hard to believe that at the end of the day, these two teams will have the same record.
Winner: Cardinals

Titans at Raiders (Sunday 4:25pm)
Run, run, run Rashard Jennings.
Winner: Raiders

Cowboys at Giants (Sunday 4:25pm)
Eli Manning owns the Cowboys.  If that stays true, Giants would be 5-6 after an 0-6 start. Wow!
Winner: Giants

Broncos at Patriots (Sunday 8:30pm)
How often do you see the Pats have a two game losing streak in November?  It’ll be cold in Foxboro Peyton.
Winner: Patriots

49ers at Redskins (Monday 8:40pm)
Time for both RGIII and Colin Kaepernick to get well here.
Winner: 49ers

Last week: 9-5
Season: 105-56

Clearing the Deck – NFL Week 9

November 3, 2013

Clearing the deck for week 9 of the NFL season…

* Welcome back Tom Brady! 432 yards and 4 TD’s vs. Pittsburgh Sunday is something fantasy football and Patriots fans are more used to from TB12.

* Can you believe the Browns (4-5) have more wins than the defending Super Bowl Champion Ravens (3-5)? They do now after beating Baltimore Sunday.

* Hey Cowboys, be thankful you were playing the Vikings this week.

* Darnell Young saves the Redskins season with an unlikely 3-TD day in washington’s OT win over the Chargers.

* If only the Bills had a QB, there’d be no more undefeated teams left.  That having been said, KC continues to be lucky each week. That luck stops as Denver and San Diego are up next on the schedule.

* Give Cam Newton his props, he’s got the Panthers back in playoff contention.

* Sorry Jeff Fisher, you can’t go home again (or at least you can’t be them in your home).

* How are Rex Ryan’s Jets 5-4? This week’s victim: Rob Ryan’s Saints.

* Have a season in one day Nick Foles – 7 TD’s – tying an NFL record with Peyton Manning and 5 others!!!!

* To say the Seahawks dodged a bullet would be an understatement.  Down 21-0 to winless Tampa Bay, they survive in OT, 27-24.

NFL Picks – Week 6

October 10, 2013

Giants at Bears (Thursday 8:25pm)
Not exactly what Tom Coughlin imagined here.  His Giants are 0-5 and now facing a Bears team in Chicago that’s lost its past 2 games.
Winner: Bears

Packers at Ravens (Sunday 1pm)
The Ravens aren’t exactly what they were eight months ago.
Winner: Packers

Bengals at Bills (Sunday 1pm)
Who would’ve thought that the Bengals would be the team to stop Tom Brady’s 52 game TD streak.  what do you think they’ll do with Buffalo’s 3rd string QB?
Winner: Bengals

Rams at Texans (Sunday 1pm)
The Rams might be a nice cure-all for what’s ailing QB Matt Schaub.
Winner: Texans

Raiders at Chiefs (Sunday 1pm)
Chiefs 6-0? Can you say yes?
Winner: Chiefs

Panthers at Vikings (Sunday 1pm)
Is this the week that Cam Newton wakes up? Just a hunch, but yes. UPDATE (Friday 7:30pm): With the tragic death of Adrian Peterson’s two-year old son, our thoughts and prayers are with the Vikings family.
Winner: Vikings

Browns at Lions (Sunday 1pm)
No Calvin Johnson – no points.  No points – no win.
Winner: Browns

Steelers at Jets (Sunday 1pm)
Think about this: the 0-4 Steelers are favored over the 3-2 homestanding Jets.
Winner: Steelers

Eagles at Bucs (Sunday 1pm)
Can things get any worse in Tampa? At least they won’t have to chase around Michael Vick in this one.
Winner: Eagles

Jaguars at Broncos (Sunday 4pm)
The spread is 28. Take the over.
Winner: Broncos

Titans at Seahawks (Sunday 4pm)
Two weeks ago, this was a really interesting matchup.  Without Jake Locker for the Titans, now it’s not so much.
Winner: Seahawks

Saints at Patriots (Sunday 4:25pm)
At the end of this one, we’ll be saying the Patriots righted the offensive ship or we’ll be wondering if they’ll ever score again! Welcome back Gronk? Maybe.
Winner: Patriots

Cardinals at 49ers (Sunday 4:25pm)
Three words for 49ers QB Colin Kaepernik: break out week.
Winner: 49ers

Redskins at Cowboys (Sunday 4:25pm)
RGIII will be channeling his 2012 Thanksgiving Day self here.
Winner: Cowboys

Colts at Chargers (Sunday 8:40pm)
Offensive shootout at the Q.  Colts could be looking ahead to next week’s home game against the guy named Manning.
Winner: Chargers

Last week: 8-7
Season: 52-25

Clearing the Deck – NFL Week 5

October 6, 2013

Clearing the deck for Week 5 of the NFL season….

* Talk about your stinkburger! The Patriots don’t score a TD and Tom Brady doesn’t throw a TD for the first time in 52 games (52 passer rating, 197 yards, 1 INT) as the Bengals beat the Pats, 13-6. The good news is that Rob Gronkowski should be back next week. The bad new: they play the undefeated Saints in Foxboro.

* Speaking of the Saints, what a difference a coach and some structure can make, right?

* Even despite throwing 5 TD’s and for over 500 yards, it’s still Tony Romo being Tony Romo as a late INT hands the Broncos a 51-48 win in Dallas.

* The bloom sure is off the Dolphins rose.

* The Colts are for real! Just ask the Seahawks and 49ers.

* Ditto for the Chiefs, even though they did beat backup QB Ryan Fitzpatick in Tennessee. We may see this rematch again in January.

* AT 0-5, we can officially put the Giants on the 2014 clock.

* We can officially put the Eagles on the QB controversy clock, even though it may not matter with Michael Vick injured and Nick Foles taking his place.

* What the heck has happened to Cam Newton? 3 more INT’s and another loss.

* Another pick-6 for Matt Schaub? Seriously! That’s already four this season. Historically bad.

* Ho-hum, another loss in Wisconsin for the Lions – that’s 23 in a row for the Packers.
