NFL Picks – Week 12

November 21, 2013

Saints at Falcons (Thursday 8:25pm)
At one time, this would’ve been a must see game. Not this week.
Winner: Saints

Jets at Ravens (Sunday 1pm)
It’s Rex Ryan and Ed Reed’s homecoming.  The guests should be very helpful to the home team.
Winner: Ravens

Panthers at Dolphins (Sunday 1pm)
Can you say “trap game” for the Panthers, coming off an emotional win Monday night over the Patriots?
Winner: Panthers

Bucs at Lions (Sunday 1pm)
This will be better than you think.
Winner: Lions

Steelers at Browns (Sunday 1pm)
The Browns shouldn’t be giving as many gifts as the Lions did last week to Pittsburgh.
Winner: Browns

Vikings at Packers (Sunday 1pm)
Hard to believe that this is a must win already for the Packers.
Winner: Packers

Jaguars at Texans (Sunday 1pm)
The Battle for the #1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft is on in Houston.
Winner (or is that loser): Texans

Chargers at Chiefs (Sunday 1pm)
Two words for Jamaal Charles: “field day.”
Winner: Chiefs

Bears at Rams (Sunday 1pm)
To say that Chicago is having 2nd thoughts about a long-term deal for the injured Jay Cutler is an understatement.
Winner: Bears

Colts at Cardinals (Sunday 4pm)
Hard to believe that at the end of the day, these two teams will have the same record.
Winner: Cardinals

Titans at Raiders (Sunday 4:25pm)
Run, run, run Rashard Jennings.
Winner: Raiders

Cowboys at Giants (Sunday 4:25pm)
Eli Manning owns the Cowboys.  If that stays true, Giants would be 5-6 after an 0-6 start. Wow!
Winner: Giants

Broncos at Patriots (Sunday 8:30pm)
How often do you see the Pats have a two game losing streak in November?  It’ll be cold in Foxboro Peyton.
Winner: Patriots

49ers at Redskins (Monday 8:40pm)
Time for both RGIII and Colin Kaepernick to get well here.
Winner: 49ers

Last week: 9-5
Season: 105-56

Clearing the Deck – NFL Week 10

November 10, 2013

Clearing the deck for week 10 of the NFL season…

* Broncos Nation is holidng its collective breathe as Peyton Manning has his MRI on his lower right leg Monday.  Up next for the 8-1 Broncos, the 9-0 Chiefs.

* Who saw this one coming: Rams 38 Colts 8?!

* How ’bout them Panthers – 5 wins in a row after silencing the 49ers in SF, 10-9. Up next for Carolina: MNF at home against the Patriots.

* The Lions rule atop the NFC North.  Let that marinate around for a bit.

* A by-product of the Lions win, Jay Cutler’s out again for the Bears.

* Good news, bad news for the Steelers: they beat Buffalo, but trade rumors begin for Big Ben.

* Think about this: Nick Foles has 16 TD’s (10 in the past two games) and 0 INT’s this season.

* Don’t look now, but the AFC North is dogfight again with both the Ravens and Browns just 1.5 games behind the now slumping Bengals.

* Case Keenum is exciting, but the Texans just aren’t that good right now.

* Yes Jacksonville, you will not go winless this season.  And that as the Titans blow a golden chance to sneak up on the Colts in the AFC South.

NFL Week 9 Quick Thoughts

November 4, 2012

* Have a day Doug Martin! 251 yards and 4 TD’s. Those Bucs may be for real!

* Speaking of for real, the Bears put up 51 on the Titans Sunday, scoring offensively, defensively and on special teams. 7-1 and playing very well in Chicago.

* Unspectacularly, the Texans quietly are 7-1 as well after a workmanlike win over the Bills.

* What has happened to Eli Manning? Eli goes 10-24 for just 125 yards and no TD’s in the Giants 24-20 home loss to Pittsburgh.

* Do you get the feeling that the Broncos (Peyton Manning 291 yards, 3 TD’s) are just going to continue to get better?

* What can you say about Andrew Luck and the Colts? 433 yards, 2 TD’s and an impressive come-from-behind win over the Dolphins have them thinking playoffs.

* BTW: did you know that Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning have both thrown for
2404 yards this season?

* Is the bloom off RGIII yet?

* Aaron Rodgers just loves playing with a chip, right? Another 4 TD’s Sunday vs. Arizona.

* Maybe the Lions should strive to be more balanced? Mikel Leshoure – 3 TD’s, Calvin Johnson – 0 TD’s, Lions 31-14 win.

* Joe Flacco just loves to play Cleveland.  Baltimore’s now 10-0 with Flacco against the Browns.

* If only the Seahawks could play all their games in Seattle!

NFL Week 5 Quick Thoughts

October 7, 2012

So, what do we think about the NFL so far in week 5?

* The Patriots are sticking with, and succeeding with, a more balanced attack.  In Sunday’s 31-21 win over Denver, NE threw it for 223 yards while running it for 251 yards, with Stevan Ridley gaining 151 of that on his own.

* How good are the 49ers? 45-3 good while running it and throwing it for over 300 yards each (621 yards of total offense).  That’s NEVER been done before in NFL history.  That’s how good!

* The Vikings are 4-1!

* Maybe the Dolphins are on to something with QB Ryan Tannehill.  Back-to-back solid performances on the road against Arizona (OT loss) and Cincinatti (Sunday’s 17-13 win) have Miami back at 2-3.

* Atlanta’s 5-0 and getting those decisive plays at the right time.  This week’s entry: Michael Turner’s 13-yard game-winning TD run in the fourth quarter to top the Redskins.

* The Redskins are holding their collective breathe after RGIII had to leave Sunday’s game with a mild concussion.   Fellow rookie QB Kirk Cousins followed with a 77-yard hook-up with Santana Moss for a go-ahead TD, but it didn’t last.

* Same ol’ story in Philly. Michael Vick can’t hang on to the ball with 2 more fumbles.  But, the good thing Eagles fans is that Vick doesn’t think he has a fumbling problem.

* Welcome back Rashard Mendenhall (81  yards, TD in his first game back from a torn ACL).

* The NY Giants wanted to get off to a good start. They were down 17-7 to the winless Browns
before rallying for the 41-27 victory.

* Have we seen the last of Matt Cassel in KC?

* The Bears looked like they were going to have one of those game, tied 3-3 in Jacksonville.  Then, they exploded for 38 second half points.  That’s a great sign if you’re a Bears fan.

* Story of the season so far – the Colts stunning the Packers, 30-27 and honoring their head coach Chuck Pagano, who’s in the hospital after being diagnosed with leukemia, with the game ball after the game.  Great story no matter who you are a fan of in the NFL.

NFL Picks Week 5

October 4, 2012

Cardinals at Rams (Thursday 8:20pm)
The vaunted Cardinals defense gave up 431 yards passing to Ryan Tannehill.  Will they bounce back this week?
Winner: Cardinals

Dolphins at Bengals (Sunday 1pm)
Cincy WR AJ Green should be able to carve up a shorthanded Miami secondary.
Winner: Bengals

Packers at Colts (Sunday 1pm)
A tough week for the Colts, with the leukemia diagnosis for head coach Chuck Pagano, will not get any easier.
Winner: Packers

Ravens at Chiefs (Sunday 1pm)
Let the Romeo Crennel watch officially begin. The Ravens, on 10 days rest, will not help that.
Winner: Ravens

Browns at Giants (Sunday 1pm)
A must win for NY with SF, Washington, Dallas, Pittsburgh and Cincy on the horizon.
Winner: Giants

Eagles at Steelers (Sunday 1pm)
The Steelers will get Rashard Mendenhall, Troy Palomolu and James Harrison back after the bye week.
Winner: Steelers

Falcons at Redskins (Sunday 1pm)
Upset Alert!
Winner: Redskins

Seahawks at Panthers (Sunday 4pm)
Marshawn Lynch will run for over 100, but Cam won’t be crying after this one.
Winner: Panthers

Bears at Jaguars (Sunday 4pm)
The Bears defense is salavating over this matchup.
Winner: Bears

Broncos at Patriots (Sunday 4:25pm)
Tom  Brady vs. Peyton Manning one more time in Foxboro. Problem for Denver –  it’s the same defense Brady torched twice last season.
Winner: Patriots

Titans at Vikings (Sunday 4:25pm)
Matt Hasselback gets the nod at QB for the Titans with Jake Locker injured.
Winner: Vikings

Bills at 49ers (Sunday 4:25pm)
Congrats  to the Bills. For their 45-7 blitz they took from the Patriots in the  last 22 minutes last Sunday, they get to go cross country and face the
Winner: 49ers

Chargers at Saints (Sunday 8:20pm)
Sean  Payton’s back in the house for the Saints as Drew Brees breaks Johnny  Unitas’ record for consecutive games with a TD pass.  Finally, a good  day for New Orleans.
Winner: Saints

Texans at Jets (Monday 8:30pm)
The Jets lost 34-0 to the 49ers.  Houston’s better than SF. No Revis. No Holmes. Do you see where we’re going here?
Winner: Texans

Last Week: 10-5
Season: 37-26

NFL Week 4 Quick Thoughts

September 30, 2012

A quick trip around the NFL in a week that probably saw a lot of people watching Ryder Cup coverage during the midst of all the pigskin action.

* It wasn’t pretty, but the Cardinals and Falcons found a way to make it to 4-0 with last second wins over the Dolphins (OT) and Panthers.

* The refs almost did it to the Packers again! Almost!

* The Saints are 0-4. Yeah, let that one marinate for a little while.

* The Pats walked into Buffalo 1-2 and down 21-7. They then outscored the Bills 45-7. OUCH!

* Peyton Manning sure looked like a guy that’s on his way to regaining his old form in the Broncos rout of the Raiders.

* The season keeps getting tougher for the Bucs Greg Schiano.  But on the other side of the field, RGIII keeps on impressing – this week, a last second drive to set up a Billy Cundiff game winning FG. Impressive.

* The Texans keep on rolling. First time in team history, they’re 4-0.

* Nice to see Chris Johnson get out of the witness protection program with 141 yards against Houston.

* Is it Tebow time for the NY Jets after getting pasted by the 49ers, 34-0.

* How are the Vikings 3-1!

* How are the Lions 1-3!

* After another embarassing Sunday in KC, how long do expect Romeo Crennel to last?

* Why do we already have byes in week 4?
