Patriots 2014 opponents set

December 25, 2013

With the AFC East clinched (again) for the Patriots, we now know what the schedule (opponents-wise anyway) will look like in 2014.  From the NFC, it’s the NFC North, but don’t worry, no Patriots on Thanksgiving since the Lions come to Foxboro.  It’ll be either the Dolphins or Bills in Pontiac since it’s CBS’s turn for that game (unless something changes).   You can probably pencil that Pats/Packers in for SNF though.

NFL Picks – Week 15

December 12, 2013

Chargers at Broncos (Thursday 8:25pm)
The Chargers have a knack for playing well in Denver (having won 3 of the last 4). No Wes Welker for the Broncos, but that shouldn’t stop them.
Winner: Broncos

Patriots at Dolphins (Sunday 1pm)
Life without Gronk (again) begins anew for New England. Will the Dolphins be the first beneficiaries?
Winner: Patriots

Redskins at Falcons (Sunday 1pm)
Washington is a mess even though the fallout may be that the Skins field a better QB this week with Kirk Cousins in for RGIII.
Winner: Falcons

Bears at Browns (Sunday 1pm)
Cutler or McCown. That’s the question for the Bears. The question for Cleveland is how do the Browns respond to losing a 13 point lead in 63 seconds in losing at New England last Sunday.
Winner: Browns

Texans at Colts (Sunday 1pm)
The Colts are reeling.  The Texans are reeling more.
Winner: Colts

Bills at Jaguars (Sunday 1pm)
The hottest team in the AFC South plays in Jacksonville. So, for the 2nd straight week, Buffalo will lose to a team that started the season 0-8.
Winner: Jaguars

Eagles at Vikings (Sunday 1pm)
Both Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart are hurt. Fantasy football players will love Nick Foles this week (again!).
Winner: Eagles

Seahawks at Giants (Sunday 1pm)
Consider this the MetLife Stadium dress rehearsal for Seattle. Opening night should come February 2nd.
Winner: Seahawks

49ers at Bucs (Sunday 1pm)
This one will be closer than you think and could be a trap game for the Niners, coming off an emotional win over the Seahawks.
Winner: 49ers

Jets at Panthers (Sunday 4pm)
Not exactly what the Doctor ordered for the Jets: a trip to Carolina to face an angry Panthers team coming off an awful night in New Orleans last Sunday.
Winner: Panthers

Chiefs at Raiders (sunday 4pm)
If only the Chiefs could face RGIII every Sunday.
Winner: Chiefs

Packers at Cowboys (Sunday 4:25pm)
Can the Cowboys “D” look any worse than they did last Monday night in Chicago? Not facing Aaron Rodgers would help.
Winner: Cowboys

Saints at Rams (Sunday 4:25pm)
Rolling, rolling, rolling. Saints in a Dome keep rolling.
Winner: Saints

Cardinals at Titans (Sunday 4:25pm)
Must win spot for Arizona here to keep pace in the NFC Playoff Chase.
Winner: Cardinals

Bengals at Steelers (Sunday 8:30pm)
If the Bengals are to be real players in the AFC, games like this, on the road against an inferior team, are must wins.  Do you trust the Bengals?
Winner: Steelers

Ravens at Lions (Monday 8:40pm)
We keep saying it, the Lions just can’t stand prosperity.  Home loss here against a team that knows how to win in December would be devastating to the playoff cause.
Winner: Ravens

Last week: 14-2
Season: 135-71-1

NFL Picks – Week 13

November 27, 2013

Packers at Lions (Thursday 12:30pm)
This one would be a whole lot different with Aaron Rodgers playing for Green Bay.
Winner: Lions

Raiders at Cowboys (Thursday 4:30pm)
Typical trap game for Dallas after an emotional road win at the Giants last Sunday that puts them back in a first place tie with the Eagles in the NFC East.
Winner: Cowboys

Steelers at Ravens (Thursday 8:30pm)
Hard to believe that the winner here is in pretty good shape in the AFC Wild Card race.  Hard-nose, hard-fought, physical football is a perfect way to end Turkey Day!
Winner: Steelers

Patriots at Texans (Sunday 1pm)
Houston makes it a perfect 10 in a row.  Losses that is.
Winner: Patriots

Dolphins at Jets (Sunday 1pm)
If anyone tells you they absolute
ly know what’s going to happen in this game, they’re lying.  Two teams riding the roller coaster all season long.
Winner: Dolphins

Bucs at Panthers (Sunday 1pm)
Don’t be surprised if the Bucs have a chance to win this one late in the fourth quarter.
Winner: Panthers

Jaguars at Browns (Sunday 1pm)
The Jaguars are so bad they’re trying to mess up getting the #1 pick by winning lately.
Winner: Browns

Titans at Colts (Sunday 1pm)
Mt. Irsay, otherwise known as the Colts owner, erupted on Twitter this week. If Indy’s offense doesn’t erupt, the AFC South top spot will be up for grabs.
Winner: Colts

Bears at Vikings (Sunday 1pm)
The Bears can’t stop the run.  The Vikings have Adrian Peterson. That could be a bad combo for Chicago.
Winner: Bears

Cardinals at Eagles (Sunday 1pm)
How is this not the Sunday night game of the week? Best game of the week candidate here.
Winner: Eagles

Falcons at Bills (Sunday 4pm)
Unfortunately, this is the NFL’s gift to Toronto this year.
Winner: Bills

Rams at 49ers (Sunday 4pm)
The 49ers are getting healthier and getting better. Both things are bad news for the rest of the NFC.
Winner: 49ers

Broncos at Chiefs (Sunday 4:25pm)
The winner has the inside track on the top seed in the AFC.  The loser could be the 5th seed.  That’s how much the Broncos needed to hang on to their 24-0 lead in Foxboro last Sunday night.
Winner: Chiefs

Bengals at Chargers (Sunday 4:25pm)
Phillip Rivers is getting hot and the Chargers have four home games in the next five.  Keep your eyes on the Bolts.
Winner: Chargers

Giants at Redskins (Sunday 8:30pm)
Why is America subjected to this in the primetime game of the week.  Bad job not flexing this one out NFL!
Winner: Giants

Saints at Seahawks (Monday 8:40pm)
If the Saints can’t beat Seattle here, their road to the Super Bowl gets dramatically tougher.
Winner: Seahawks.

Last week: 6-7-1
Season: 111-63-1

Clearing the Deck – NFL Week 11

November 17, 2013

Clearing the deck for a Sunday afternoon full of surprises in week 11…

* Thoughts and prayers are with everyone touched by the dramatic tornadoes in the Midwest Sunday.

* With that having been said, the Bears OT victory over the defending Super Bowl Champion Ravens despite a two-hour weather delay with those tornado warnings and playing with a backup QB is a good thing on a bad day.

* There’s no doubt the Saints (23-20 winners over SF) and the Seahawks (41-20 over Minnesota) are the class of the NFC at this point.

* Don’t look now, but the Cardinals are just as good (record-wise) as the 49ers at 6-4.

* Hello roller coaster: the Giants have now four in a row and are now just a game out of first place after stating the year 0-6. Who are they behind? The 6-5 Eagles and 5-5 Cowboys.

* Congratulations Texans’ fans, your team has now lost eight in a row after getting beat by Matt McGloin (3 TD’s) and the Raiders in Houston.  Oh yeah, Matt Schaub is back as your QB. Ouch!

*  Maybe the Jets should have spent more time practicing that playing at Dave & Buster’s in Buffalo this weekend.

* That’s two in a row in Tampa.

* Not even a win over San Diego will squash the bad bullying vibes in Miami.

* Just when you thought the Lions were progressing, they give up nearly 400 yards of offense and 4 TD’s to a previously struggling Ben Roethlisberger.

* Do you think Aaron Rodgers should ask the Packers (0-3 without Mr. Discount Double Check) for a raise?

Clearing the Deck – NFL Week 10

November 10, 2013

Clearing the deck for week 10 of the NFL season…

* Broncos Nation is holidng its collective breathe as Peyton Manning has his MRI on his lower right leg Monday.  Up next for the 8-1 Broncos, the 9-0 Chiefs.

* Who saw this one coming: Rams 38 Colts 8?!

* How ’bout them Panthers – 5 wins in a row after silencing the 49ers in SF, 10-9. Up next for Carolina: MNF at home against the Patriots.

* The Lions rule atop the NFC North.  Let that marinate around for a bit.

* A by-product of the Lions win, Jay Cutler’s out again for the Bears.

* Good news, bad news for the Steelers: they beat Buffalo, but trade rumors begin for Big Ben.

* Think about this: Nick Foles has 16 TD’s (10 in the past two games) and 0 INT’s this season.

* Don’t look now, but the AFC North is dogfight again with both the Ravens and Browns just 1.5 games behind the now slumping Bengals.

* Case Keenum is exciting, but the Texans just aren’t that good right now.

* Yes Jacksonville, you will not go winless this season.  And that as the Titans blow a golden chance to sneak up on the Colts in the AFC South.

NFL Picks – Week 8

October 24, 2013

Panthers at Bucs (Thursday 8:25pm)
It’s time to fire up that countdown clock to Greg Schiano’s firing day in Tampa. The Bucs are winless and now without Doug Martin.
Winner: Panthers

Dolphins at Patriots (Sunday 1pm)
The good news is that the Pats are finally getting some players back: Gronk, Talib, Amendola. The bad news is that Tom Brady hasn’t
thrown a TD pass in 2 of his last 3 games.
Winner: Patriots

Cowboys at Lions (Sunday 1pm)
Expect an offensive explosion here.
Winner: Lions

Browns at Chiefs (Sunday 1pm)
Sure, KC’s undefeated but yet again, they’ll play another wounded team. Wait until they have to play Denver twice in two weeks in late November.
Winner: Chiefs

Bills at Saints (Sunday 1pm)
Slim. None. Those are the chances the Bills could actually win this game.
Winner: Saints

Giants at Eagles (Sunday 1pm)
Hard to believe that after winning just one game, the Giants could actually get back into the NFC East race with a win here.  Expect Michael Vick back this week.
Winner: Eagles

49ers at Jaguars in London (Sunday 1pm)
The Jags better hope the Niners are very jet-lagged here.
Winner: 49ers

Steelers at Raiders (Sunday 4pm)
Quietly, the Steelers are starting to get their offense back to a respectable level.
Winner: Steelers

Jets at Bengals (Sunday 4pm)
Jets have won the last four against Cincy, but it’s NY’s week to lose after beating the Patriots last Sunday.
Winner: Bengals

Redskins at Broncos (Sunday 4:25pm)
Lucky Redskins, they get to face an underachieving Peyton Manning after Denver’s first loss of the season Sunday night in Indianapolis.
Winner: Broncos

Falcons at Cardinals (Sunday 4:25pm)
This is a game the Falcons should win.  But these are not last year’s Falcons my friends.
Winner: Cardinals

Packers at Vikings (Sunday 8:30pm)
Josh Freeman threw 53 passes in a loss at the Giants. Now, after a concussion, it’s Christian Ponder taking Freeman’s spot at QB.  Lucky Packers!
Winner: Packers

Seahawks at Rams (Monday 8:30pm)

Who will score more – the Rams or the World Series-playing Cardinals?
Winner: Seahawks

Last week: 9-6
Season: 73-34

NFL Week 16 Picks

December 21, 2012

Falcons at Lions (Saturday 8:30pm)
Time for the Falcons to wrap up the NFC’s top spot.
Winner: Falcons

Patriots at Jaguars (Sunday 1pm)
No holiday cheer for the Jags who find themselves in a bad spot with a Pats team coming off a Sunday night disappointing loss to SF.
Winner: Patriots

Bills at Dolphins (Sunday 1pm)
Surprisingly, the Dolphins could still finish at .500.
Winner: Dolphins

Chargers at Jets (Sunday 1pm)
Just call this the Disappointment Bowl.
Winner: Jets

Vikings at Texans (Sunday 1pm)
Wouldn’t be surprised to see Adrian Peterson will the Vikes to another win here. He’s been doing it all year.
Winner: Texans

Raiders at Panthers (Sunday 1pm)
Quietly, Cam Newton is redeeming himself the past five weeks.
Winner: Panthers

Saints at Cowboys (Sunday 1pm)
A glimpse of Sean Payton’s past meeting his future?
Winner: Cowboys

Colts at Chiefs (Sunday 1pm)
Would you have ever guessed that the Colts would be clinching a playoff spot in Week 16?
Winner: Colts

Titans at Packers (Sunday 1pm) Merry Christmas Aaron Rodgers, who should have easy pickings here.
Winner: Packers

Redskins at Eagles (Sunday 1pm) RGIII should be back for this one as the March to the Playoffs continue for Washington.
Winner: Redskins

Bengals at Steelers (Sunday 1pm)
Must win for both teams here, but can you really trust the Steelers this season?
Winner: Bengals

Rams at Bucs (Sunday 1pm)
The bloom is off the Bucs rose for 2012.
Winner: Bucs

Browns at Broncos (Sunday 4pm)
This one would be a whole lot closer if it was in Cleveland.
Winner: Broncos

Giants at Ravens (Sunday 4:25pm)
Hard to believe that the Giants are this close to not making the playoffs if they lose here.
Winner: Giants

Bears at Cardinals (Sunday 4:25pm)
How far have these fallen? Cards started 4-0 (now 5-9) and the Bears were 7-1 (now 8-6)
Winner: Bears

49ers at Seahawks (Sunday 8:25pm)
Game of the day in the Pacific Northwest. How much did the Pats win take out of the Niners?
Winner: Seahawks

Last season: 12-4
Season: 146-77-1
