NFL Wild Card Playoff Picks

January 4, 2014

It’s playoff time!!!!

Chiefs at Colts (Saturday 4:40pm)
Can the Chiefs turnaround their late season swoon? Can the Colts protect Andrew Luck enough? Can Alex Smith make enough plays?  At this point, there’s something missing from the Colts.  Jamaal Charles has to come up big for KC!
Winner: Chiefs

Saints at Eagles (Saturday 8:10pm)
Can the Saints play well outdoors below 30 degrees? Can Nick Foles keep it going in the playoffs? No Pierre Thomas for Saints, who I just don’t trust away from the Dome!
Winner: Eagles

Chargers at Bengals (Sunday 1pm)
Do you trust the Bengals – losers in the past two seasons in this spot? Can you trust the Chargers outdoors in the snow/rain? Two words: Andy Dalton.  Three words: don’t trust him.
Winner: Chargers

49ers at Packers (Sunday 4:45pm)
Ice Bowl II with below zero temps expected.  Can the 49ers put up the points to match Mr. Rodgers in the cold? No Clay Matthews for Green Bay which will be big across the middle vs. Vernon Davis and Anquan Boldin.
Winner: 49ers

Last week: 13-3
Season: 166-88-1

NFL Picks – Week 11

November 14, 2013

Colts at Titans (Thursday 8:25pm)
Who will bounce back faster: the Colts from a 30-point loss to the Rams or the Titans from a woeful loss to the previously winless Jags?
Winner: Colts

Jets at Bills (Sunday 1pm)
Does anyone really know what to expect from either of these two teams?
Winner: Bills

Ravens at Bears (Sunday 1pm)
No Jay Cutler for the Bears should keep the Ravens around for awhile.
Winner: Bears

Browns at Bengals (Sunday 1pm)
Are the Browns really on the way up? Are the Bengals really on the way back down?
Winner: Bengals

Raiders at Texans (Sunday 1pm)
This game could personify ugliness.
Winner: Texans

Cardinals at Jaguars (Sunday 1pm)
Don’t look now, but the Cards are in the thick of the NFC playoff picture.
Winner: Cardinals

Redskins at Eagles (Sunday 1pm)
The only downside for Philly could be that they’re actually playing the game in Philly.
Winner: Eagles

Lions at Steelers (Sunday 1pm)
Could the Lions actually get the three-peat of ending losing streaks in Green Bay, Washington and Pittsburgh all in one year?
Winner: Lions

Falcons at Bucs (Sunday 1pm)
This season can’t end fast enough for the Falcons who now have TE Tony Gonzalez injured (toe).
Winner: Bucs

Chargers at Dolphins (Sunday 4pm)
Miami just lost to the previously winless Bucs, the NFL investigation into the Jonathan Martin case is underway and now, things will get worse against the Chargers.
Winner: Chargers

49ers at Saints (Sunday 4:25pm)
Can Colin Kaepernik do it twice in two seasons in the Superdome?
Winner: Saints

Packers at Giants (Sunday 4:25pm)
Four in a row for the Giants?
Winner: Giants

Vikings at Seahawks (Sunday 4:25pm)
Welcome back Percy Harvin.  We’re betting payback is on his mind.
Winner: Seahawks

Chiefs at Broncos (Sunday 8:30pm)
This is part one of the Chiefs two-part test over the next three weeks to determine if they’re for real in 2013.
Winner: Chiefs

Patriots at Panthers (Sunday 8:40pm)
It’s simple: can the Panthers get to 20. The Pats can but it won’t be easy against a stingy Panthers defense.
Winner: Patriots

Last week: 5-9
Season: 96-51

Clearing the Deck – NFL Week 9

November 3, 2013

Clearing the deck for week 9 of the NFL season…

* Welcome back Tom Brady! 432 yards and 4 TD’s vs. Pittsburgh Sunday is something fantasy football and Patriots fans are more used to from TB12.

* Can you believe the Browns (4-5) have more wins than the defending Super Bowl Champion Ravens (3-5)? They do now after beating Baltimore Sunday.

* Hey Cowboys, be thankful you were playing the Vikings this week.

* Darnell Young saves the Redskins season with an unlikely 3-TD day in washington’s OT win over the Chargers.

* If only the Bills had a QB, there’d be no more undefeated teams left.  That having been said, KC continues to be lucky each week. That luck stops as Denver and San Diego are up next on the schedule.

* Give Cam Newton his props, he’s got the Panthers back in playoff contention.

* Sorry Jeff Fisher, you can’t go home again (or at least you can’t be them in your home).

* How are Rex Ryan’s Jets 5-4? This week’s victim: Rob Ryan’s Saints.

* Have a season in one day Nick Foles – 7 TD’s – tying an NFL record with Peyton Manning and 5 others!!!!

* To say the Seahawks dodged a bullet would be an understatement.  Down 21-0 to winless Tampa Bay, they survive in OT, 27-24.

Clearing the deck – NFL Week 8

October 27, 2013

Clearing the deck for week 8 of the NFL season…

* Have a day Megatron! 329 yards for Calvin Johnson and a last second win over the Cowboys may have pushed Detroit back into NFC Contention.

* And speaking of dramatic, how about the Patriots turning a 17-3 halftime deficit into a 27-17 win. Turning point of the season? Could be.

* Maybe the Jaguars should just stay in London after their embarrassing rout to the 49ers.

* Hard to believe, but the 2-6 Giants are now only two games out of first place in the NFC East. How fitting is that they do it on 5 FG’s and 0 TD’s.

* The Chiefs continue to do just enough to beat who’s on their schedule each week.  Now, the true tests begin with two games with both Denver and San Diego ahead.

* Now having said that, Peyton Manning is proving human, having to rally the Broncos from a 21-7 deficit to win Sunday in Denver.

* The Saints, now disciplined under Sean Payton, are for real folks. Plus, it helps when Drew Brees throws for 5 TD’s.

* Give the Bengals credit, the Jets game was probably one they would lose in the past.  Domination comes to mind this time around though.

* Falcons 2013 – thy name is disappointment.

* Steelers 2013 – see Falcons.

NFL Picks – Week 3

September 19, 2013

Chiefs at Eagles (Thursday 8:25pm)
Andy Reid’s homecoming to Philly. KC’s better, but can they handle the hurry-up offense?
Winner: Eagles

Bucs at Patriots (Sunday 1pm)
The Bucs are in disarray, much like the Patriots offense. FG’s could decide this one.
Winner: Patriots

Texans at Ravens (Sunday 1pm)
No Ray Rice for the Ravens could spell 1-2 for Baltimore. As for the Texans, they’ve lived on the edge with 2 last drive wins so far.
Winner: Texans

Giants at Panthers (Sunday 1pm)
Can we call this the disappointment bowl already?
Winner: Giants

Lions at Redskins (Sunday 1pm)
Winner: Redskins

Chargers at Titans (Sunday 1pm)
The Titans are better than you think and should be 2-0 if not for a last second meltdown in Houston last Sunday.
Winner: Titans

Cardinals at Saints (Sunday 1pm)
The Saints have that swagger again, courtesy of Sean Payton.
Winner: Saints

Packers at Bengals (Sunday 1pm)
The biggest question is can Andy Dalton keep up with Aaron Rodgers? Me thinks, no.
Winner: Packers

Rams at Cowboys (Sunday 1pm)
Didn’t Dallas say the offense would be better this year?
Winner: Cowboys

Browns at Vikings (Sunday 1pm)
Congratulations Browns Fans, your team is already looking towards 2014 after trading RB Trent Richardson to Indy.
Winner: Vikings

Falcons at Dolphins (Sunday 4pm)
We may see if this Miami team is different than those of recent history. This is the spot the Dolphins would normally chuck up a stinker.
Winner: Falcons

Bills at Jets (Sunday 4:25pm)
Battle for the AFC East basement in NJ! At least the Bills have a QB upside, right?
Winner: Jets

Colts at 49ers (Sunday 4:25pm)
Good news for Trent Richardson: you’re out of Cleveland. Bad news for TR: you’re facing the 49ers this week.
Winner: 49ers

Jaguars at Seahawks (Sunday 4:25pm)
Seattle should be cruising by about 4:40pm (ET).
Winner: Seahawks

Bears at Steelers (Sunday 8:30pm)
These are not your father’s Steelers folks.
Winner: Bears

Raiders at Broncos (Sunday 8:40pm)
Peyton to Thomas. Peyton to Welker. Peyton to Thomas. Peyton to Decker. Peyton to 3-0.
Winner: Broncos

Last week: 13-3
Season: 26-6

Clearing the Deck – NFL Week 2

September 15, 2013

Clearing the deck for week 2 of the NFL season…

* Raise your hand if you picked both the Dolphins to be tied atop the AFC East with the Patriots with two road wins to start the season. OK, now admit you’re not telling the truth.

* The Bears survive in the final seconds…again.

* That’s a big boy finish for the Bills EJ Manuel.

* Here’s hoping the injury to Ray Rice is nothing serious for the Ravens.

* Two weeks and two furious fourth quarter comebacks for the Texans. It’s those victories that’ll make them tough to beat in December. Mental toughness.

* Maybe the Redskins will ask the NFL to only play the second halves of games this season.

* Aaron Rodgers is just plain scary good right now.

* All that hype about the Chiefs seems warranted so far. Next up: Andy Reid’s family reunion in Philly Thursday night.

* They may have lost, but keep an eye on the Rams Bradford to Austin combination.

* Have a game Doug Martin! 144 yards for DM is a hard-fought way to rebound to a disappointing week 1 loss to the Jets. Unfortunately, the Bucs still lose on another last second FG to the Saints.

* Could it be that the Raiders are actually better than we thought?

* Hey, Little Bro, I’m still undefeated against you. Signed, Peyton!
