NFL Week 17 Picks

December 26, 2013

Bills at Patriots (Sunday 4:25pm)
Too much on the line for the Pats to no-show here in week 17.
Winner: Patriots

Panthers at Falcons (Sunday 1pm)
See Patriots for Panthers. #2 seed on the line here as well.
Winner: Panthers

Ravens at Bengals (Sunday 1pm)
You don’t think the Bengals want to see the Ravens twice in two weeks do you? They could with a loss here.
Winner: Bengals

Jets at Dolphins (Sunday 1pm)
Rex Ryan would love to put an end to the Dolphins season.  Rex would also love a new contract. He’ll get neither.
Winner: Dolphins

Jaguars at Colts (Sunday 1pm)
Will the Colts rest looking towards next week?
Winner: Colts

Lions at Vikings (Sunday 1pm)
The Lions downfall comes to a complete fail in Minnesota. Bye bye Jim Schwarz.
Winner: Vikings

Redskins at Giants (Sunday 1pm)
The Redskins are playing for the right for St.Louis to draft #1 or #2.
Winner: Giants

Browns at Steelers (Sunday 1pm)
The Steelers still have something to play for while watching the Ravens and Dolphins.
Winner: Steelers

Texans at Titans (Sunday 1pm)
The Texans can finally do something right this season by losing here.
Winner: Titans

49ers at Cardinals (Sunday 4:25pm)
Hard to believe that the Cards will beat the Seahawks in week 16 and 49ers in week 17, win 11 games and miss the playoffs.
Winner: Cardinals

Bucs at Saints (Sunday 4:25pm)
So, the Saints could be a #2, #5, #6 seed or not make the playoffs at all. Can’t see them losing in this spot at home though as they send Greg Schiano back to college (Penn State?)
Winner: Saints

Packers at Bears (Sunday 4:25pm)
Things go from bad to worse for the Bears.  Aaron Rodgers is back! Should’ve clinched things last week.
Winner: Packers

Broncos at Raiders (Sunday 4:25pm)
Time to wrap up the #1 seed in Denver.
Winner: Broncos

Chiefs at Chargers (Sunday 4:25pm)
If the Dolphins, Ravens and Steelers lose earlier in the day, the Chargers could benefit from KC sitting down some key players for the playoffs.
Winner: Chargers

Rams at Seahawks (Sunday 4:25pm)
The seahawks will be out to show that last week was just a dream/nightmare loss at home. Sorry St.Louis.
Winner: Seahawks

Eagles at Cowboys (Sunday 8:30pm)
Can it get any more bizarre in Big D? Sure, a Cowboys win would do just that.
Winner: Cowboys

Last week: 9-7
Season: 153-85-1

NFL Picks – Week 16

December 19, 2013

Dolphins at Bills (Sunday 1pm)
Suddenly, the Dolphins have playoff life after last week’s upset over the Patriots.  Win out over the Bills and the Jets and they’re into the 2nd season. It doesn’t hurt this week that Thad Lewis is in for EJ Manuel even though Lewis beat the Dolphins in Miami earlier this season.
Winner: Dolphins

Saints at Panthers (Sunday 1pm)
The NFC South Title is on the line here in a rematch of two weeks ago. Don’t count on the Panthers being as bad this Sunday as they did then. Saints could be dropping to a possible 5th or 6th seed witih a loss here.
Winner: Panthers

Vikings at Bengals (Sunday 1pm)
No cupcake for the Bengals, who suddenly find themselves with the Ravens breathing down their neck in the AFC North.
Winner: Bengals

Broncos at Texans (Sunday 1pm)
Time for Peyton and crew to wrap up that #1 seed.
Winner: Broncos

Titans at Jaguars (Sunday 1pm)
Two teams working on keeping momentum for 2014.
Winner: Jaguars

Colts at Chiefs (Sunday 1pm)
Playoff preview in KC as these two teams are likely to meet in the 1st round.
Winner: Chiefs

Browns at Jets (Sunday 1pm)
Can the Jets finish .500 to save Rex Ryan’s job?
Winner: Jets

Bucs at Rams (Sunday 1pm)
Too bad for St.Louis that last week’s win over the Saints is the exception rather than the rule in 2013.
Winner: Rams

Cowboys at Redskins (Sunday 1pm)
An absolute and utter mess.  That applies to either team. It’s just a matter of who’s going to give it up last.
Winner: Cowboys

Giants at Lions (Sunday 4pm)
The Giants are looking towards 2014 on their own.  As for the Lions, Justin Tucker’s 61-yard FG may have them looking towards 2014 as well.
Winner: Lions

Cardinals at Seahawks (Sunday 4pm)
This could get ugly in Seattle.  The Cards are good, but the matchup is scary bad for them this week.
Winner: Seahawks

Patriots at Ravens (Sunday 4:25pm)
Two teams seemingly going in opposite directions.  Grab your lunchpail, it’s always a battle between these two teams.  Expect nothing less this time.
Winner: Ravens

Steelers at Packers (Sunday 4:25pm)
To Aaron Rodgers or not to Aaron Rodgers.  That is the Packers question as they climb right back into the NFC Playoff Race, courtesy of the Dallas Cowboys.  UPDATE (Fri 2pm): Aaron Rodgers officially out for week 16.
Winner: Packers

Raiders at Chargers (Sunday 4:25pm)
Hail Mary time for the Chargers.  Win out and have the Ravens and Dolphins lose out.  Not likely.
Winner: Chargers

Bears at Eagles (Sunday 8:30pm)
O-F-F-E-N-S-I-V-E S-H-O-O-T-O-U-T!!!
Winner: Eagles

Falcons at 49ers (Monday 8:40pm)
The 49ers are the 2nd best time in the NFL. Unfortunately for them, they will be a 5th seed in the NFC Playoffs.
Winner: 49ers

Last week: 9-7
Season: 144-78-1

NFL Picks – Week 13

November 27, 2013

Packers at Lions (Thursday 12:30pm)
This one would be a whole lot different with Aaron Rodgers playing for Green Bay.
Winner: Lions

Raiders at Cowboys (Thursday 4:30pm)
Typical trap game for Dallas after an emotional road win at the Giants last Sunday that puts them back in a first place tie with the Eagles in the NFC East.
Winner: Cowboys

Steelers at Ravens (Thursday 8:30pm)
Hard to believe that the winner here is in pretty good shape in the AFC Wild Card race.  Hard-nose, hard-fought, physical football is a perfect way to end Turkey Day!
Winner: Steelers

Patriots at Texans (Sunday 1pm)
Houston makes it a perfect 10 in a row.  Losses that is.
Winner: Patriots

Dolphins at Jets (Sunday 1pm)
If anyone tells you they absolute
ly know what’s going to happen in this game, they’re lying.  Two teams riding the roller coaster all season long.
Winner: Dolphins

Bucs at Panthers (Sunday 1pm)
Don’t be surprised if the Bucs have a chance to win this one late in the fourth quarter.
Winner: Panthers

Jaguars at Browns (Sunday 1pm)
The Jaguars are so bad they’re trying to mess up getting the #1 pick by winning lately.
Winner: Browns

Titans at Colts (Sunday 1pm)
Mt. Irsay, otherwise known as the Colts owner, erupted on Twitter this week. If Indy’s offense doesn’t erupt, the AFC South top spot will be up for grabs.
Winner: Colts

Bears at Vikings (Sunday 1pm)
The Bears can’t stop the run.  The Vikings have Adrian Peterson. That could be a bad combo for Chicago.
Winner: Bears

Cardinals at Eagles (Sunday 1pm)
How is this not the Sunday night game of the week? Best game of the week candidate here.
Winner: Eagles

Falcons at Bills (Sunday 4pm)
Unfortunately, this is the NFL’s gift to Toronto this year.
Winner: Bills

Rams at 49ers (Sunday 4pm)
The 49ers are getting healthier and getting better. Both things are bad news for the rest of the NFC.
Winner: 49ers

Broncos at Chiefs (Sunday 4:25pm)
The winner has the inside track on the top seed in the AFC.  The loser could be the 5th seed.  That’s how much the Broncos needed to hang on to their 24-0 lead in Foxboro last Sunday night.
Winner: Chiefs

Bengals at Chargers (Sunday 4:25pm)
Phillip Rivers is getting hot and the Chargers have four home games in the next five.  Keep your eyes on the Bolts.
Winner: Chargers

Giants at Redskins (Sunday 8:30pm)
Why is America subjected to this in the primetime game of the week.  Bad job not flexing this one out NFL!
Winner: Giants

Saints at Seahawks (Monday 8:40pm)
If the Saints can’t beat Seattle here, their road to the Super Bowl gets dramatically tougher.
Winner: Seahawks.

Last week: 6-7-1
Season: 111-63-1

NFL Picks – Week 11

November 14, 2013

Colts at Titans (Thursday 8:25pm)
Who will bounce back faster: the Colts from a 30-point loss to the Rams or the Titans from a woeful loss to the previously winless Jags?
Winner: Colts

Jets at Bills (Sunday 1pm)
Does anyone really know what to expect from either of these two teams?
Winner: Bills

Ravens at Bears (Sunday 1pm)
No Jay Cutler for the Bears should keep the Ravens around for awhile.
Winner: Bears

Browns at Bengals (Sunday 1pm)
Are the Browns really on the way up? Are the Bengals really on the way back down?
Winner: Bengals

Raiders at Texans (Sunday 1pm)
This game could personify ugliness.
Winner: Texans

Cardinals at Jaguars (Sunday 1pm)
Don’t look now, but the Cards are in the thick of the NFC playoff picture.
Winner: Cardinals

Redskins at Eagles (Sunday 1pm)
The only downside for Philly could be that they’re actually playing the game in Philly.
Winner: Eagles

Lions at Steelers (Sunday 1pm)
Could the Lions actually get the three-peat of ending losing streaks in Green Bay, Washington and Pittsburgh all in one year?
Winner: Lions

Falcons at Bucs (Sunday 1pm)
This season can’t end fast enough for the Falcons who now have TE Tony Gonzalez injured (toe).
Winner: Bucs

Chargers at Dolphins (Sunday 4pm)
Miami just lost to the previously winless Bucs, the NFL investigation into the Jonathan Martin case is underway and now, things will get worse against the Chargers.
Winner: Chargers

49ers at Saints (Sunday 4:25pm)
Can Colin Kaepernik do it twice in two seasons in the Superdome?
Winner: Saints

Packers at Giants (Sunday 4:25pm)
Four in a row for the Giants?
Winner: Giants

Vikings at Seahawks (Sunday 4:25pm)
Welcome back Percy Harvin.  We’re betting payback is on his mind.
Winner: Seahawks

Chiefs at Broncos (Sunday 8:30pm)
This is part one of the Chiefs two-part test over the next three weeks to determine if they’re for real in 2013.
Winner: Chiefs

Patriots at Panthers (Sunday 8:40pm)
It’s simple: can the Panthers get to 20. The Pats can but it won’t be easy against a stingy Panthers defense.
Winner: Patriots

Last week: 5-9
Season: 96-51

Clearing the Deck – NFL Week 9

November 3, 2013

Clearing the deck for week 9 of the NFL season…

* Welcome back Tom Brady! 432 yards and 4 TD’s vs. Pittsburgh Sunday is something fantasy football and Patriots fans are more used to from TB12.

* Can you believe the Browns (4-5) have more wins than the defending Super Bowl Champion Ravens (3-5)? They do now after beating Baltimore Sunday.

* Hey Cowboys, be thankful you were playing the Vikings this week.

* Darnell Young saves the Redskins season with an unlikely 3-TD day in washington’s OT win over the Chargers.

* If only the Bills had a QB, there’d be no more undefeated teams left.  That having been said, KC continues to be lucky each week. That luck stops as Denver and San Diego are up next on the schedule.

* Give Cam Newton his props, he’s got the Panthers back in playoff contention.

* Sorry Jeff Fisher, you can’t go home again (or at least you can’t be them in your home).

* How are Rex Ryan’s Jets 5-4? This week’s victim: Rob Ryan’s Saints.

* Have a season in one day Nick Foles – 7 TD’s – tying an NFL record with Peyton Manning and 5 others!!!!

* To say the Seahawks dodged a bullet would be an understatement.  Down 21-0 to winless Tampa Bay, they survive in OT, 27-24.

Clearing the Deck – NFL Week 7

October 20, 2013

Clearing the deck for week 7 of the NFL…

* Yes, it’s a rule on the NFL books, but what a horrible way to decide an NFL game as the seldom (first time ever) called “pushing your own player ahead on a field goal attempt” is called against the Patriots, negating a 56-yard FG miss by Nick Folk and giving the Jets another easier attempt later in overtime.

* Talk about an offensive show – check out the replay of the Lions/Bengals in which Calvin Johnson and AJ Greene blow the roof off Ford Field with a combined 310 yards (each with 155 yards) and 3 TD’s.

* Ho hum, the 49ers keep motoring on.

* Ditto for the Kansas City Chiefs, now 7-0 and on a collision course with 2 meetings in 3 weeks with the Broncos late in November.

* Talk about going from bad to worse for the Texans? At one point, Houston was playing with Case Keenum at QB and no Arian Foster & Ben Tate in the backfield due to injuries.

* If only the Dolphins could play offensively.  Talk about your costly fumbles, Ryan Tannehill.

* Wow, how bad were the Eagles Sunday?

* Jay Cutler’s groin is now topic #1 in Chicago.

* Don’t count the Steelers out yet. A couple of back-to-back wins have given Pittsburgh new life in the AFC North.

* Sam Bradford goes down in St.Louis and yes, the Tim Tebow rumors to the Rams has already begun.

* Can things get any worse in Tampa? Now Doug Martin has a shoulder injury.

* Yup, the Jaguars are still the worst in the league.

NFL Picks – Week 7

October 17, 2013

Seahawks at Cardinals (Thursday 8:25pm)
Trap game for Seattle as they start a two-game road trip through Arizona and St.Louis?
Winner: Seahawks

Patriots at Jets (Sunday 1pm)
Is there anyone left to play for the Patriots? No Wilfork, Mayo. Maybe no Amendola, Talib, Kelly…etc.  But, will it matter?
Winner: Patriots

Bills at Dolphins (Sunday 1pm)
It’s only week 7, but a must win game for the Dolphins if they’re to remain playoff contenders in the AFC.
Winner: Dolphins

Buccaneers at Falcons (Sunday 1pm)
Label this one the Disappointment Bowl.
Winner: Falcons

Bears at Redskins (Sunday 1pm)
Wouldn’t Jay Cutler just love to stick another “L” next to Mike Shanahan’s name this week?
Winner: Bears

Cowboys at Eagles (Sunday 1pm)
Sadly enough, this is a battle for the top spot in the NFC East even though neither team is over .500.
Winner: Eagles

Chargers at Jaguars (Sunday 1pm)
This is San Diego’s third trip cross country in just six weeks.
Winner: Chargers

Rams at Panthers (Sunday 1pm)
Will the real Rams and Panthers please stand up? Who saw St.Louis routing the Texans in Houston? Or who saw a 4 TD week from Cam Newton on the road in Minnesota?
Winner: Panthers

Bengals at Lions (Sunday 1pm)
Both teams are 4-2, but you just get the sense that the Bengals continue to be underachievers.
Winner: Lions

49ers at Titans (Sunday 4pm)
You’d like to see this matchup in about four weeks when Titans QB Jake Locker returns from injury. UPDATE: Titans announce that Locker will surprisingly start Sunday.
Winner: 49ers

Texans at Chiefs (Sunday 4:25pm)
Talk about the ultimate two teams going in different directions! Step for Houston: try to end their five game streak of giving up pick-6’s.
Winner: Chiefs

Ravens at Steelers (Sunday 4:25pm)
This used to be a marquee matchup.
Winner: Steelers

Browns at Packers (Sunday 4:25pm)
Green Bay’s defense surprisingly got better without Clay Matthews last week in Baltimore. Anamoly or the real deal?
Winner: Packers

Broncos at Colts (Sunday 8:30pm)
A return to Peyton’s Place for Manning.  Don’t let the homecoming fool you.  Manning will be all gameface by 8:30pm.
Winner: Broncos

Vikings at Giants (Sunday 8:40pm)
Josh Freeman gets his first start at QB for Minnesota.
Winner: Giants

Last week: 12-3
Season: 64-28
