Penn State’s Day of Reckoning

Today, Joe Paterno’s statue comes down (ESPN).

Monday, the NCAA comes down with “unprecedented penalties” according to CBS News.

If it’s anything less than the shutdown of the football program for at least a year, it’s not far enough IMHO.  If the NCAA won’t shut the program down for a bit, then we the fans, media and moral fiber of the country must.  That means, no games on tv, no games in person, no coverage.

The culture must change and in order to do it, you need to start fresh.  Do the kids and staff that are there now suffer, sure.  But, since the totality of the program led to the culture of putting wins and losses of a football game in front of children’s lives, it must start from scratch.  Period. End of statement
