Bailey to have surgery Wednesday; Red Sox top Nats

The Red Sox wrap up the exhibition season in Washington, DC Tuesday against the Nationals.  Boston wins it 8-7.

* Clay Buchholz throws four scoreless innings before giving up four runs through 5 2/3 innings.  Alfredo Aceves threw a scoreless eighth with two K`s to get the win.

* Dustin Pedroia slammed two doubles, good for 2 RBI`s as the Red Sox took a 4-0 lead. Daniel Nava slugged a solo HR for the Red Sox to tie the score at 7.  Jason Repko brought home the winning run in the 9th on an RBI double.

* Andrew Bailey and Josh Beckett are both getting their thumb injuries checked out in Cleveland.  Bailey is expected to have surgery to reconstruct the ligament in his right thumb Wednesday and could miss up to 3 months (WEEI).  Manager Bobby Valentine says Bailey will not be back before the All-Star break. Beckett may not miss any starts.

* The Red Sox have officially sent pitchers Aaron Cook and Russ Ohlendorf to Pawtucket to start the season.

* Next up: Season opener in Detroit Thursday with Jon Lester taking on Justin Verlander
