The Red Sox have acquired closer Andrew Bailey from Oakland in a deal sending OF Josh Reddick to the A’s, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.
Baileyhad a 3.24 ERA and 24 saves with 8.9 strikerouts per nine innings while walking 2.6 per nine innings in 41 2/3 innings in 2011. He’s scheduled to make about $3.55 million in 2012.
The move would allow Boston to move previously acquired rightly Mark Melancon to a set-up role in his move over from Houston.
Outfielder Ryan Sweeney also comes to Boston in the deal while the A’s get first baseman Miles Head and pitcher Raul Alcantera in addition to Reddick.
